Yes, but I do it anyway. Sometimes.

Lately, because of possible layoffs, we employees have been having regular meetings with managers at work, and I've been asking the questions that I want to ask. I don't always do that, because I'm afraid of looking silly, but since we're facing layoffs, I figure I don't have much to lose.

Maybe that's one way layoffs have been good for me. I've been standing up more and worrying about the consequences less. If I'm not laid off, maybe I'll be stronger.

I've heard that every day, you should do something that scares you. I think that's a good way to look at life. Standing up and asking what I really want to know has been a good way of doing that.

I never used to be, until I noticed that in the proximity of someone else, I could not be able to stand at all. I'm still not afraid of it, just hoping that I don't have to stand much longer. I'd rather sit down with a violent Buddhist.

Not in the least. You have to stand for something or you'll fall for anything, and if you are the only one standing, then maybe others will not only respect you for your courage, but will also learn from it.
