5 feet tall. I have a typing job so I get no exercise. I am a diabetic and learning to make lower carb choices.

Will power was my biggest problem, but i developed a few mental tricks to help me lose weight.

1. I eat half the meals I ususally do. it helps if you use a smaller plate, because your mind sees a full plate, but it's actually less food.

2. I work in an office too. I usually walk around the building on my breaks and it helps to promote circulation.

3. I bring healthy snacks to work to stay away from the snack machines. Fruit, butterless popcorn, salt less pretzels.

4. Eat MORE healthy meals/snacks throughout the day because it cuts back on binge eating.

5. I take the stairs instead of elevators and walk from the parking lot which is about 5-6 blocks away. Take your time and don't rush, build up speed and distance over time.

6. There is a bicycle machine that you can put under your desk, AVON sells them. They are small and basically just have pedals that you can adjust.

7. Drink lots of wayer because it speeds your motabolism.

8. Eat salads with turkey or chicken. It's filling, plus even with a normal salad dressing still has less calories and fat then burgers and fries or something. Plus the vegetables promote a regular bowel movement which can decrease weight.

9. Don't tell anyone you're dieting. When people know you're dieting they can be very discouraging even if they aren't trying to be. If they see you with something unhealthy they will be sure to comment.

10. Eat things you like, even fattening things sometimes. When you deprive yoursefl you often want those things more which causes binges.

11. Don't weigh yourself. Weighing yourself often can discourage you because even if your don't lose actual pounds you still can lose inches so you don't want to be discourage by a scale.

12. Don't wear elastic clothing. It gives a level of comfort that you really don't need, plus it's hard to see weightloss in inches. If you can feel the difference in your clothes then you would have a better view of weight lose.

Hope this helps...Good luck.

Hi! I am 16 and 160 lbs. I"m only 5'1" so I need to lose about 30 lbs. I was recently diagnosed as pre-diabetic and if I don't lose the weight, I will become diabetic within a year or two. That fact is what keeps me going. It is my willpower. It's what helps me get on my exercise bike every night to do 4 miles.

My nutritionist (you need one) has shown me how to live a healthier lifestyle. Instead of 3 big meals a day, I have six smaller ones. It will help speed up metabolism. Fish and Poultry instead of meats will help you lose the weight as well. Remember to only have about 3 ounces of meat, fish, or poultry. For breakfast look into the Kashi cereals. My personal favorite is Strawberry Fields. Eat lots of veggies and fruits. My nutritionist recommends 3 fruits a day even to diabetics.

About exercise. You don't have to put too much time or effort into exercising. Washing the car can burn up to 200 calories. A walk around a block is better than nothing. Go right before the sun sets. It's cooler out and the view is spectacular.

You should really see a nutritionist. They can be really helpful about exercise as well as food.

It's not that you lack will power. You are just eating all the wrong foods, at the wrong times, and for the wrong reasons. You have other issues, and you are medicating with food. Food gives you comfort and acts like a crutch that you use to cope with anxiety. You should talk to a counselor who can help you discover some healthier coping skills. You should also get a professional assessment to see if you are biochemically weight-loss resisitant. You should then see a nutritionist and a fitness trainer. With the help of these people, you can make a plan to change your life, and get healthier along the way. You will not have to give up anything or make any sacrifices, just do things differently. Is has to be something you want to do, and committ to. Don't sit there and anticipate that it will be scary or hard. Just give them a hance and listen to what they have to offer. I promise that you will find a plan you will be excited about. You can get more info at www.drphil.com

I believe that there are ways into tricking yourself into having willpower. We usually see willpower as being disciplined, which is why it's so unappealing. However, you can create a system where you are exercising discipline without even knowing it.

For example, you can create mini 2 week programs, one after the other, which have a pre-determined diet and exercise program. Every time you cheat, you'll have to start the 2 week program all over again. Who wants to be re-living a diet over and over? Once you finish 2 weeks, you move onto a new 2 week program, which can re-introduce a food that was left out of the previous week. It keeps things fun, interesting, and something for you to look forward to in the weeks to come. From my experience, the possibility of having to do a 2 week program all over again overshadowed my temptation to cheat. Try it out!

I went to my Dr. and her sent me to a Dietary specialist. She gave me charts, exercise routines for MY schedule and lifestyle. She also gave me her number whenever I feel trapped or alone, she's there to talk me through my crisis (over eating). I do believe there are hot lines also, but, I talk to her, she's my supporter.
So, go see your Dr. and give a dietitian a try, who knows, it might be as good for you as it has been for me, also, ask about support groups and hot lines, anything is better that struggling alone.
Good luck to you, and I mean that, it's not easy, but it's worth it, physically and mentally, not to mention it's better for your over all health!!! And will help with the Diabetes, my dad is a sever diabetic, he dropped 35 lbs. and now has a better control of his sugar...HONEST!!
