mistakes? there are so many mistakes made in iraq it's not even funny. I'm in the US Army. been on 2 deployments to Iraq. Seems like everytime i went there, problems and bad decisions were always made. This is just at the lowest level. There's no telling how many mistakes our joint chiefs of staff have made. Just recently 4 soldiers are being charged with murdering people and might be facing the death penalty.

It was 300 billion dollars and a couple thousand lives. Not the end of the world. The US government is pretty inept when it comes to stabalizing a warlord torn country. There really is only one way to do it - doing away with personal freedoms in Iraq, controlling all information, and other techniques. The US government needs to take a few pages from the book of China and Saddam... otherwise its just going to be endless warlordism.

The mistakes started from the minute Bush decided to invade a country that had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11.
1) Refused to listen to his top generals, who said we needed between 200,000-300,000 troops at the beginning of the war. Instead they deploy about 150,000.
2) The military consficates 120,000 weapons from Iraqis, then decides to give them back there weapons and send them home.
3) When the looting starts, the generals ask if they should prevent it, the top brass says no. Later it is learned that the money earned from selling the stolen loot is going to the insurgents, nice eh?
4) You have a clown like Rumsfield who hasn't a clue what he is doing.
5) You have clowns like Cheney who says the Iraqis will be putting flowers in the barrels of the soldiers rifles.
6) Oh and you have that moron Wolfowitz who says the war will pay for itself in 6 months. Still waiting paul?

There have been mistakes made in the Iraq war. I'm more interested and making sure they are rectified then going back and finger pointing.
TXSUP states a great Dem talking point. Complain and moan about Republicans instead of stating a policy of what should be done from this point forward.

Melt states a good Republican talking point. Now is not the time for recriminations or examinations of the past. Very convenient and useful approach for those who have messed up and want to keep their jobs. It's a great way of avoiding responsibility.
