I was cutting grass today when I discovered a large rock hidden in the grass which slammed my mower to a stop. I looked underneath and sure-enough, I bent the blade.

I know a new blade is pretty cheap, but I have no money right now and I was wondering if it's possible to just bend it back into place (hammer it down, or bend it with pliers) for a quick and temporary fix?

If it's okay to do that, what's the best way to do it?

I wouldn't. You would have to be quite precise.

Get a new blade. The blade has been weakend by the damage done when it hit the rock; bending it will only weaken it further. If that blade happens to break off while you are mowing, you could be very seriously injured.

When you get the new blade on the mower, check the engine. If, as you say, it slammed your mower to a stop it could have damaged the crankshaft or the connecting rod. If it starts listen for any unusual noises from the engine, check for unusual vibrations, make sure it is coming up to full RPM.

While it is physically possible to bend the blade back into a workable shape it would require it be removed from the rest of the mechanism. This can quite often be difficult and hurt full to do even if you are handy and sometimes very dangerous if it's a gas lawn mower, if you want to attempt it make sure the motor whether gas or electric cannot spring on to cut and hurt anybody. Best thing to do....COLLECT on an old favor a neighbor owes you, borrow his mower. No COLLECTS due then go rent a mower or have a pro straighten and sharpen yours.

I have tried to even put them in a vise and get them to straightened out. They are a type of spring steel so you are not going to hammer it straight. It seems like you never get the bends just right. It also throws your mower out of alignment, that will damage the shaft seal. Also take the plug wire off and turn the crankshaft to see if you bent that.

You can try bending it back into shape but it has to be balanced or else the vibration can do damage to your motor. It is alot cheaper just to buy a new blade or just borrow a friends mower until you get yours repaired.

Yes but not worth it. Blades are balanced and when out of balance they will tear up your bearing. Been there done that. Not worth the simple fix for a more costly fix it will create in a short term.

You can never straighten out a blade like it should be, must get a new one, if this was on a pushmower I sure hope you didn't bend your crankshaft

Your playing with fire man. Dont take a chance of losing a body part. That would surely cost you more then a new blade.

Likely worn piston rings. The oil ring on the piston is worn & oil is allowed to get into the combustion chamber with the gas & expelled thru exhaust. CHECK OIL! Probably need new engine or mower eventually.

if it doesn't break why not. it's gonna be hard to bend it back though hammer or pliers won't do it. you will need to put it in some kind of vice to hold it then you can try to beat it back to shape. good luck.
