Depends on the problem. However it has been my observation that most people will get help for their problem when he/she wants to get help and not because a parent, spouse, bf/gf, friend , child says so.

I am always leery.
Anyone can get into trouble but real character shows when they have the propensity to get out of it themselves. It is also a weak willed person who cannot.
