every computer has a ip address, they come in handy with fraud, but i dont know why yahoo records them and i've never seen that before

It means that whatever you type, it's recorded and kept on files for ever. I would imagine they are being recorded for child protection reasons. If a child reports inappropriate behaviour then it is much easier to track the person down if you have an ip as they will be paying for this ip address ie paying your internet service provider.
