Yes, I believe that there was a creature like a dragon with wings and horns, but I don't know about the fire-breathing. This could be scientifically explained through two glands in the jaws of a reptile that, upon opening the mouth a certain way, spew two different types of liquid that, when joined together, are ignited and burst into flame (watch the movie Reign of Fire, you'll see what I mean). The closest animal to a dragon that ever existed is what's known as the Archeopteryx, a dinosaur with wings and feathers. It looks like a cross between a peacock and a lizard. It's really close to being a dragon, so maybe these people in ancient times discovered the skeletal remains of an Archeopteryx and thought it was some sort of winged beast, a dragon. Or maybe the concept of the dragon stemmed from the belief in a serpent being the embodiment of Satan. Dragons go back way before Jesus, for dragons are mentioned in the bible, specifically in Daniel and Revelations. The dragon is the embodiment of evil and of Satan, according to the Bible. The dragon may be a modified version of the serpent that temtped Eve in the good o'l Garden of Eden. Maybe one of the prophets/authors said, "Eh, we can't reuse the serpent for Revelations, I know! Let's give it winges! Yeah, and let's have it breathe fire, and have horns! Oh, baby, is this gonna sell!" Something along these lines. But my strongest belief is that some ancient race found the skeletal remains of a dinosaur and thought up a dragon, or the dragon is a modified version of the serpent, the embodiment of all evil (read Revelations; it's a short book).

I want to believe. I was born in the year of the dragon and I take it as my sign for everything. My car and desk at work have dragon images. Look at my nickname. I tend to hold the dragon pretty high because it has been an image that has been with me for my whole life in one way or another.

i think "dragon" is an old way to describe dinosaurs

there are written records in ancient egypt of flying dragons.
also in china, there are records of there being dragons.
some ancient oriental buildings have depictions of dinosaurs.
some ancient south american pottery and depictions show people riding what looks like brontosaurus and other dino like creatures.

it's reported yearly from some south american countries that there is a type of miniature pterodactyl ranging from bat to hummingbird size. I've only seen one cadaver. it amazed me.

there are several other old writings mentioning dinos.
i would say that some dinos survived in remote areas and the written accounts mention sightings from these remote areas.

did you see the discovery channels little movie about dragons.....giving ideas on how they could breath fire and how their behavior might have been. In real life there were probably some big species of monitor lizards left in those days kind of like the comono dragons we have today.

I KNOW there are dragons!

My daughter pointed them out to me... you know those big hills you often pass by driving in your car? They're sleeping under those hills until it is time for the world to accept them again. (see link three)

My daughter was born in the year of the Dragon.

I don't believe that they exist in real life, but I love reading about them. I wish there were Riders like in "Eragon" by Christopher Paolini... ^_^
