i myself being a manger know that sometimes no mater how well you trust somebody, the less they know the better they are and it doesn't matter what division of the company your in. I would respect this person wishes not discuss or reveal any important details that surround this issues with you. If this person wants your help, they'll ask for your advice other than that you are just considered to be being nosy like most women (not all), but a lot of women are nosy. Not to be rude or anything!

You have a very smart boss. He knows when to keep his mouth shut. You should get your information regarding management decisions at the same time everyone else does. Otherwise, you might base some of your actions on information that does not benefit the company.

Though he might be a very close friend to you, at work he is your boss and you should respect that. You should never try to mix relationship with work. I understand you won't deceive him if ever he share some company secret with you, and I also understand that you want to help your fellow colleagues at work. But still, as he is the boss, he knows better how to manage his business/company.
So dear, respect his decision to not share management decisions with you.

It may be that while he knows some of what is going on, he's not at liberty to discuss it yet. Often management decisions are extremely time sensitive and rumors getting out before announcments are made could affect the company.

It is best both for your friendship and career to keep work and friendliness separate.

Despite how close he is to you as a person, you should respect his approach to work as I'm sure he is doing his job. So you just do your job too and deal with him as a friend only when it concerns non work related things.

I'm sure he finds it hard to do it too, but don't make it harder for him.

If you hang out with this person for who he is, this should not really bother you. You know what they say, never mix pleasure and work. Besides, it's his own right to not disclose them. And maybe he is protecting both of you.
