They continue to fly around the light bulb because there is heat being emitted from the light bulb, even though it has been turned off. Moths and other flying insects are attracted to both light and heat. Once the heat has dwindled away, the insects will look elsewhere (usually its the nice warm human lying asleep in bed).

Actually they are flying around what was a light source and heat source. When the light was turned of heat still emanated from the bulb.

I don't know why, but they will fly round and land on anything hanging down, that's why flypaper is successful.

they are looking for the light, it is what attracts them...or perhaps a giant turd to land on

because they are attracted to the heat, or because they enjoy looking at there reflection!!
