Addition and subtraction begin in 1st grade and then in 2nd they do some minor multiplication and division, 2x1, etc and begin covering carring and borrowing. Third grade is when they get into addition and subtraction with carring and borrowing, or least they are expected to understand it and know how to perform it. They also start getting into 2 digit multiplication and divison.

My daughter just started first grade and they are already doing addition and subtraction. They have to memorize math facts each month along with doing problems. I am not sure what grade the multiplication starts

It will make a depend on the school, some private schools teach early, 2nd grade. Public schools, 3rd or 4th. Home school, as much as each child can learn.
