I'm going to a friends doctor, and she said that is how they will do it!!

No problem. Unless you cannot open your mouth for the nurse to take your temperature normally, you will not have to worry about having it taken rectally.
When the nurse, or doctor, takes your temperature rectally, you are already undressed, usually with a gown on, you lay on your side and they stick the thermometer up your anus. If you are male, the doctor would do it, to save you embarrassment. If you a female, the nurse would do it for the same reason.

I'm sure you probably just undress, lay down on the doctor's table, and let him/her put the thermometer in your butt. I think they leave it there for a little while to get the exact temperature and then that's it. I never had to go to a doctor to do that but i can remember my mom doing that when i was much younger. I don't think i really liked it, but i remember my dad held me down and i had no clue what was going on. My mom rubbed a bunch of vasleline on her finger and moisturized my butt with it. Then she slid the thermometer in and left it in there for a while. I just remember it was really cold and uncomfortable. So good luck with the experience! haha. Maybe you will like it more than i did. At least you are a bit older.

rectal temps aren't necessary at routine physicals. The purpose for a rectal temp is to get an accurate core temperature. You won';t have to worry about a hernia check unless you go into sports either. And best of all, when you turn 30? You start getting your Prostate checked. (gotta do it )

you are to old for a rectal temperature. only infants have one done because they cannot keep one in there mouth. you will probably have it taken in your mouth or ear with a special temp machine the docs have. to answer your question though you would undress an lay on your side.

I doubt that they will take a rectal temp. Most are done quickly with a device placed into your ear.

u r usually in a gown n laying on ur side. it does not hurt at all.just remember 2 relax

Yes. They stick it in your buttvrack and then they leave it there for 5 minutes. It helps like H... when they stick it in. Ouch!!!!!!! Im still screaming from a while a ago because it has a SHARP point!
