My mom had thyroid surgery and her scar looked like someone had attempted to sever her head with a dull knife. It was horrible. She used Mederma on it and now you can't even see it unless you get up close and are looking for it.
The trick is, you have to use it religiously for several weeks or even months. And it works much more effectively on newer scars than old ones. But it does work.
I'm using it on a scar I have from a dog wrapping his leash around my ankle and giving me a terrible friction burn which has now become a terrible scar. It's working.

All your answers are actually answered on a tube of Mederma. It does what it's suppose to do. It depends on how long you've had the scars and how bad they are as to how much Mederma must be applied and how many times a day and how long you'll see results. And they won't happen over night, that's for sure. But it will take a long time for any scar to go away with a topical cream. The only way to really see immediate results would be to go to a plastic surgeon and have them "remove" the scar completely. I hope this helps and good luck!

I bought some and started using it on a new scar so I am familiar with the product. On the information sheet that comes with it, here is what they say: "Massage it in 3 to 4 times a day; on new scars for 8 weeks; on existing scars for 3 to 6 months. They claim their product reduces the appearance of scars but also that no product can make scars disappear completely. Mederma can help them appear softer, smoother and less noticeable." I have been using it for about a week or two and I can't tell yet how helpful it is.

. I have been using mederma for about a month an a scar from surgery . I t was really red and thick and about 4 inches long on my ankle . It is not as thick now, actually only a few lumpy spots 90% flat, but still very dark It is recommended to take about 2 months for new scars and 6 or more on old scars. If yours seemed to get worse you might want to check with a dermatologist.

I have a scar above my lip and I used Mederma. However, it made the scar really red and I couldn't tell if it was really helping or not, so I stopped using it.
