According to the astronomers, there are 8 in our solar system and many more than 200 in the universe have been found.
Pluto is only a dwarf planet. Xena, Ceres, and Charon could have been named planets but they don't fit the new rules.
1. It must be spherical.
2. It must have a clear orbit.
Plus you should have asked this in the science astronomy folder.

I learned in school there was 9 planets that's including Pluto,but that's back when I was in 4th and 6th grade around 1994-1996.

last I heard there was 8 now that pluto was downsized. They are talking about downsizing Uranus also.
