i think he is also in love with you but he's keeping it a secret from you because he thinks that you might be angry with him and not to talk to him. i know and i understand your feeling because was like that too with my friend

My first real deep love gives to my best friend. He is a strong guy who always watch over me around, But once he realized that I an a gay he don't talk to me even a word any more. So i can understand u a lot. Try to get out of this vortex as soon as possible. can't get a happy endding! Now I don't talk to that guy ,that my best friend before any more,because I don't know what can i talk. So I perfer u to find someone else and still get him to ur best friend. I hope u can get a happy endding with out fall in love with him.Though this is very hard and need a long time. But try, and I don't want somrone like me be hurt again!

most of the times i get abandoned by my really good friends once i told them i am bi even though i intentionally choose good friends that i would never fall for.
so the thing is which do you prefer: do you want him to be your lover or your best friend?
lover: can he keep secrets? if yes, tell him how you feel. if he does not feel the same way then it would be wise for you to end your best friendship coz if your best friend starts dating, it would devastate you.
best friend: find another lover or cut out any thoughts of him being your lover as soon as it enters your mind. keep doing it until you find another lover. or you may ask not to see him for a period of time just so you can diffuse your love for him.
the meaning of his silent i suspect is he sense that you feel awkward talking about girls coz being your best friend he would know you to some extent. he does not know why you behave the way that you do but he feels that you may be hiding something.

Tell him how you feel, he might appreciate it. But say it in a subtle serious way so as to not creep him out a bit. You'll never know until you try.

be honest with him, don't hold back, tell him who you are, if he still wants to be your friend or partner then go ahead, if he wants to end the friendship then it was too bad, you have to let him go, remember nothing last forever, sometimes we have to let go something that we hold so dear.
