Ok my Internet Explorer has been acting up lately. It freezes up all the time (no other programs will) but it doesn't seem to do it with all websites. When I search newegg.com I can't get very far before I freeze up while tigerdirect.com I have been searching for 10 minutes. I have tried resetting my trusted sites, and firewall settings to default. I recently installed a Motorola Surfboard modem (but it didnt work), so I have disabled and unplugged that, as well as I disabled my Local Area Connection (I'm wireless). I have installed the new Internet Explorer but that did not help. I ran McAfee Virus Scan and nothing came up. Although I cant remember when this started, I might go ahead and do a system restore if no one knows whats going on.

Thanks in advance

IE is a great browser so stop bashing it. It was spyware and Windows defender fixed it.

Hi -

Sounds like you have a spyware infection. The Microsoft Defender anti spyware program has worked very well for me both at home and on the job. It is free.

As for your connection issues - if you are using wireless uninstall you modem and your network card and remove them from the computer. If they are built into the motherboard boot into the BIOS - by tapping the Delete key usually - and disable the "built in peripherals" or what ever your motherboard manufacture calls them. You can also go to Device Manager and right click a device and click on Disable. This will kill the device for testing purposes.

In addition to the above install the Zone Alarm free firewall. It will allow you to see what is going out as well as what is going in, and is very handy to spot trouble with.

Another thing you might rty if you have it on your operating system is launching Task Manager and clicking on the Network tab. Minimize it and look again in 10 minutes. It will chart the network activity of your pc - Internet activity. If you have a significant amount of traffic you are probably infected. You can also look at the Zone Alarm log file and see the name of the application that is making this communication and you can block it if it is a malisious app - spyware. It will still run on the computer but you can now look at how to remove it - Defender works well.

Good luck and happy surfing!

Ok, we will stop bashing IE but the US Computer Emergency Readiness Team & PC World Magazine will continue:

US Computer Emergency Readiness Team:
"There are a number of significant vulnerabilities in technologies related to the IE...It is possible to reduce exposure to these vulnerabilities by using a different web browser"
http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/713878

Pc World:
"Internet Explorer 6.x might be the least secure software on the planet"

explorer is a microsoft program. try logging in at msn and downloading the program updates, if there are any. i don't use explorer unless i go to msn. it is a search engine just like yahoo search and google search. try that instead when going to websites.
