Yepp. Use a cup of vinegar. Don't worry the smell won't be there and your clothes will be fluffy and soft..honest. ps hair conditioner will work but don't use it a lot, it leaves a residu. It might contain the same ingredients but conditioner for clothes is formulated differently. Hey why in the heck did i get a thumbs down? I'm dead serious.

If you are using a tumble dryer, fabric conditioner is just a waste of money, the dryer softens things as well as the conditioner does.
If you are drying things naturally, use hair conditioner, if you get a big bottle of the cheap stuff and then dilute it, it is cheaper than fabric conditioner, and works just as well.

Fabric softener, yet another unnecessary product that big business cajoles people into buying!
You don't need this kind of item; did our grandmothers have these things? And the money you'd spend on them each year, what a waste.
What are they made of? Have you ever wondered . . . . .
And then when your clothes and bedding are saturated, you are breathing it all in.
Yeuch!

Try not using anything! If some clothes get too staticky that way, air dry them, and try not to excessively dry the rest. I use low heat in the dryer and set it to not get clothes too dry and have not used fabric softener for years. It can actually build up on the clothes and make them less absorbent = less comfortable, and if you use softener on your underwear, it increases the chance of urinary tract infections.

Definitely the cup of vinegar is your best bet. It is a natural softener...
Vinegar helps remove limescale buildup (Use it on sinks and bathtubs too) Vinegar softens the water by disolving the lime.
And the smell is gone by the time your wash is finished.

a dab of hair conditioner during the rinse cycle is fine. It will get rid of any static when your clothes are in the dryer.

conditioner causes towels not to dry you properly as they can't absorb the moisture as well.
a nice rough towel is the best exfoliate there is. or if you have room get a tumble drier.

Having soft water helps. You use less soap and the clothes are naturally soft.
