Well, I just thought about it because they were talking about it on TV. So, I was thinking about how many great memories I made that year in 5th grade, but it was also the year with the most tragedy in my life.

Since there are all kinds of 5 year anniversary observations, and hundreds of TV specials and "looking backs" in the print media, yeah, I'd noticed.

But the 5 years between 5th and 10th grade are some of the longest years of a lifetime, so I'll forgive you for being surprised.

I haven't so much "noticed" that it's been five years...although on the anniversary of any historical event (good or bad), the media starts talking about it (again).

It's alot like (for example) the assassination of President Kennedy. I wasn't born until the following year (oops, I just gave away my age), but my parents, and their friends, can remember exactly what they were doing when they heard the news of JFK's death.

When the space shuttle Challenger exploded in 1986, I was in my early 20's, and I remember the events of THAT day very clearly. It wasn't an act of terror, it wasn't politically motivated, and it wasn't the act of some madman. It was a terrible accident, and it shocked everybody in the USA, and probably the world.

When 9/11 happened, it became clear (pretty quickly) that it was NOT an accident. The shock of death and destruction affected everyone, myself included. But another "scar" left on the American psyche is the fact that somebody did this to us!

As much as we'll never get over the loss of life and property, we'll also never get over the fact that on that day, America was successfully attacked, and seriously wounded.

Who has noticed that it's been almost 20 years since 1987?

Yeahhhh... I remember that day... Creepy... But I also though that 5years isn't a long time. 5y ago, I thought that these 5y won't come so fast... But I was wrong... I still remember that 9/11, and it seems that it was only yesterday...
