I had a breast reduction last december, and now my fiance and I are trying to conceive and I want to breast feed. Anyone know if it is still possible, personal experiences would be great!

Thank you!

Yes, ma'am!! I've done a lot of research on this and I plan to get a reduction as well and hope to breastfeed. You might be one of those people who would have never been able to breastfeed anyway, so try not to blame the reduction if that happens to you. But, if you don't go to a reputable surgeon which I'm sure you did, then I have heard of problems and I have heard of problems -rarely- of people with reductions who were affected by their surgery when trying to feed, but it's so much more uncommon then it used to be.

Yes. It depends some on how your surgery was done how successful you'll be at it. Some moms might be able to exclusively nurse after a reduction. Others may have to supplement. Find a copy of the book "Defining Your Own Success: Breastfeeding After Breast Reduction Surgery" by Diana West.

There are herbal and prescription galactagogues (milk-inducing medicines) that can help you to increase your supply. You may want to rent or purchase a good quality electric breast pump as well.

My cousin just had a baby after a reduction and she was unable to breastfeed. She pumped every 3 hours for the first 3 weeks after giving birth. She also took so medication prescribed by her doctor which was supposed to help produce milk and she still was only pumping 3 oz in a 24 hour period.
