Consider his actions and behavior as something you'd never stoop down to and the same holds true with regard to his level of intellect. Such persons you will never trust but they are to be considered as challenges and obstacles to be hurdled.
Sooner or later, he will meet his comeuppance but you will not be the one who will actively shoot him down from his perch, it will be somebody more vicious and more malevolent than him.
Focus on your work and accomplishments; leave no room for whatever envy for whatever he accomplishes. The reason he is backstabbing you is simply because he knows that he'll never measure up to you and your capabilities when the playing field is leveled.
Keep your dignity, professionalism and sense of self-esteem, also your self-respect. There is nothing wrong with being ambitious... but everything is wrong when you are vicious. [Now, where is that teargas canister I keep around here...]

1) Sit down at the computer and type him a letter. Put everything in it that you are feeling!! Everything. Read it. Reread it. Add more that you forgot. Read it. Reread it. Save it. Do NOT send it. When you start feeling the same again as you think about it, read it again. By this time you should start getting over it. Time to delete it. Always be polite to him but distant. With time you will come to terms with it. Then, the day will come when you can let him know exactly how you feel towards him without being filled with rage and saying something you will regret. You will walk away feeling like a bigger and better person. I have been there and know how you feel and this worked for me. Good Luck!

First of all, dont act on the rage...that will get you fired and then "he" wins.
Distance yourself as much as possible.
If you both work for the same supervisor, I would mention that there is friction and see if you can be put on different assignments.
It is likely that most people see "how he is" to a certain degree, so by taking the high road you win.
Take some solace in that what comes around, really does end up going around...
And for now, mind your p's and q's and make sure you are doing a GOOD job so you aren't opening up yourself to disciplinary action or doubt in your abilities.
Good Luck.

You're probably dealing with a narcissist. The best advice is to stay away as much as possible. Ignore him if at all possible. Narcissists hate to be ignored. They are like children who didn't grow up and want attention at any cost. Watch him self implode. Narcissists do this. It's the way they're hardwired.
As for the rage, take boxing or some other physical activitiy that lets you get it out.

They say revenge is sweet but unfortunately it's short lived(talking from experience). Revenge leaves a bitter stain.Don't get mad get better!Challenge him to a duel(metaphorically speaking).
Use your imagination..I don't have enough info to work with here .
Some form of competitive activity that you are exceptionally good at(but which he sux at).Perhaps you can secretly get someone else to help you organize something. It would all be in good fun afcourse but you'll be able to get out your frustrations in a healthy way.I wish I could be more helpfull..Goodluck!

Reduce your interactions with him as much as possible. Remove any opportunity for him to stab you in the back. If you stay positive, do a great job, and ignore him as much as possible, he will eventually slip up and his true intentions and personality will be shown to all, leading to his downward spiral of failure.

It's all about the competition. Survival of the fittest. This is a game you won't win if you lose your cool first. Remember...Be nice to your friends, but nicer to your enemies.
