I'm currently on vacation from work and have found myself drawn into the world of cheesy, daytime American sitcoms. As ashamed as I am I need to know why the dude named Paul has disappeared from the programme.

John Ritter died on his daughter's birthday, which happens to be Sept. 11th. So sad, he was so good. This poor girl will probably need therapy at some point. What an unlucky birthday.

John Ritter died on set, of sudden heart failure, just after completing taping for that day. I believe it was September 11, 2003 (his daughters birthday).

Hey, I love 8 Simple Rules :).
He died, whilst filming one of the episodes. Something happened to his heart, but it wasn't a heart attack. It was all very sudden so the grief which is shown by the other characters is very genuine as most of them were there when he died.
