The College Football Guru says....
Short answer is the tigers.
Long answer is they are the tigers and war eagle is the battle cry (like Roll Tide or Go Blue). Auburn has two mascots, Aubie the costumed tiger and Tiger the real live eagle. The story behind the eagle is that there was an Auburn alumnus in the civil war. Apparently, he had been shot and was lying, very much alive, on the battle field. Then, this eagle with a broken wing fell down beside him (the war eagle). The rebel troop adopted the eagle, and took him back to the Auburn campus. He became a local hero, and the school took in the eagle. Hence, War Eagle. Also, War Eagle is the name of the Auburn fight song.

Auburn's mascot is a Tiger. They also use the cry "War Eagle!" Because of that, and because Auburn has a school of veterinarian medicine, the school uses an eagle as a second mascot.
Good luck!

Tigers. The war eagle is their "cry", or "motto". If you go to the Auburn web site, they have a great detailed history of the school, that should do it.
