You can certainly work in the aircraft industry, but to do aircraft design you'll need a master's degreee that focuses on aerospace engineering. You will be able to enter such a master's degree with an undergrad in mechanical.

If you are still considering your undergrad degree you could do aerospace engineering as an undergrade and then a master's. This would give you the most solid foundation for a career in the aerospace industry.

Note that aerospace is one of the most math intensive specialties in engineering, so you should have a high math aptitutude and like crunching numbers.
