This is purely a personal theory.
When you duck, you expose less surface area of your body/clothes to the rain, so less gets wet. As you hunch over, you are sheltering more of the front of your body from the rain. It's like using your back as your covering. For example, a lady carrying her baby in her arms will hunch over to protect her baby from the rain.

Sometimes the answer is in the opposite of the question:
Why do ducks walk like people in the rain?

I duck kinda forward as not to get my face wet. I know what you mean about some people though. if you duck a little lower youll never get wet.

I don't, I actually enjoy walking in it....
however, i suppose most people go thru the posture you're speaking of because subconsiously they think if they are leaned forward they can walk faster and therefore get out of it quicker possibly reducing the amount of water they are getting drenced with.

Good question. Ducks don't 'people' when they walk in the rain.
Maybe they know something we don't?
