He played a game last week in the rain, and they have since dried out but the odor is horrible, when he puts them in the duffle bag for practices it sinks eveything up! Any suggestions?

Prevention is the best defense. Odor "eater" insoles really do wonders and work best when put into new shoes at the outset. Have him use odor-absorbing foot powder on his feet before putting his socks on, then sprinkle some directly in the shoes.

For the existing odor, if the insoles are removable, you could try handwashing them giving them a white vinegar and water rinse. If the insoles aren't removable, liberally sprinkle baking soda in them and give it some time to absorb the odor. Shake it out before wearing, as it isn't all that comfortable to walk on.

Pull the tongues all the way back and set them in the hot sun on a breezy, dry day.
