after the baby and placeta are delivered, she will bleed and continue to have small contractions. this is the uterus returning to normal size and yes there will be bleeding, its called lochia (low-key-a) and it will continue for 4-6 weeks. every woman is different but the normal time to bleed is 4wks or so. hope that helps!

What Comes Out After Birth

There should be NO "poking and scraping" to remove the placenta unless there is a problem. ACTUALLY, "poking and scraping" to remove the placenta could CAUSE problems. If the caregiver is patient the mom will be able to push the placenta out on her own with no problems. (And pushing the placenta out is not painful....after all it's soft and squishy with no bones or anything.)

Amniotic fluid and blood also come out. Some mothers may have a bowel movement while pushing. The mother will have a flow of lochia (bloody discharge) lasting anywhere from a few days up to 6 weeks after birth.

Blood does come out a long with the placenta. If you bleed too much then it is dangerous.
