We went from Brokeback Mtn. which I thought was a pretty honest representation of things, especially for the time period. I have seen the Ricky Bobby movie and Benchwarmers, and they seemed to add homosexual elments like people put pepperoni on a pizza. The element is there, but it seems to have no purpose.

Did the french driver have to be gay? Was there really enough milage in that to be worthwhile? And in Benchwarmers (come on Nick Swardson must be gay) why have a tall skinny guy running around in a speedo?

To me it seems to reinforce some crappy stereotypes about gay guys. I am just curious what the opinions are in the gay male community. Note also people in recent movies aren't plastering lesbians all over the place. Hmmm....

never saw benchwarmers. But to me, the gay jokes in talledega weren't making fun of gay people nearly as much as making fun of the illogical problems that some straight people have with homosexuality (namely a lot of southerners). I mean, ricky bobby passing out 'because of the gayness'. Hilarious! I actually know this guy who is a little weird about gay guys and he said after he saw the movie he felt like a dumbass for being so standoffish. I think it definately had a purpose.

Dunno, I won't see those two movies because I simply don't like that sort of thing. Many of those movies enjoy doing things like that and it gets to be quite old. Yeah, there's a stereotype, yeah it was vaguely, funny the first time I saw it back in the late 70's-early 80's. Move on. Unfortunately today the movie industry is more about making money than providing actual entertainment. People will pour out the cash to see nonsensical drivel and then get disappointed whenthey find out the best parts of the movie were shown in the commercial.
Don't go see those movies. I don't. I refuse to pay my hard earned cash for something that obviously sinks to promoting stereotypes and seeing them as something to be remembered and laughed at instead of something to be overcome and forgotten.
