Yes, economic excellence is all fine and dandy but I think it's a bit too much when Mediacorp does it this way. It seems to be trying to milk the cow till blood comes out! You see product endorsements in the so-called music videos, they try to keep the talentless contestants so that clueless twits will vote profusely to 'save' their idols and apart from Florence Lian and Ken, the other so called judges don't seem to use their brains to comment. Their lack of wit reflects badly on Singaporeans because they make us all look stupid. Being a big reality show, I don't think the sets are that grand and worthy of millions of dollars of SMS voting every season. We are being taken for a ride! I don't know if the contestants are given personal trainers on the various aspects of performing because after several stages, some of them seem to look unprepared and uncomfortable and thus some unflattering comments from the judges. C'mon, if you are going on national TV, at least make it look good!

The whole pop industry is about money.

There's not a single doubt that Singapore Idol is nothing but money. After the hugh success in SI season, it will be foolish enough not to do it again for SI season 2 coz the money that cames from voting from the public is extremely good
Do a simple calculation:$0.60cts per call or smsSingapore do valued people with potential & talents. But after the season ends, do they(Mediacorp)really market, promote & transform him or her in the music industry.Sly ,SI runner up was one good example. Not much of him anymore, more like a "white elephant".
Well, its unfortunte that more shows are coming yr way, Superstar 2,Dancing Fever,King of Comedian & Creative minds etc.

I totally agree with you. I pity the Singapore Idols trying so hard to juggle personal singing practice sessions and hopping around to different shopping centres for whatsoever publicity campaigns. And when they screw up on stage, they get lambasted on national tv by judges. I think it's completely unfair when the judges ceaselessly expect more from the Idol contestants and accuse them of not trying their best. Give them a break, man! Some of them are barely 16!

And I think it's so damn unfair to criticise a contestant for being a potato sack and what not?! What's her dressing got to do with capturing audience affection and her singing talent? Well, at least she's acting HER AGE and not dressed up as a bishop!

And some of the judges LOVE twisting their words ALL the time. When a contestant sings well, he/she's accused of not being idol-material. But when a contestant prances around the stage mesmerising the audience, he/she's accused of being a lousy singer a.k.a. monkey. What the hell do the judges truly want?!

But I personally like Jacintha the best. She gives really encouraging comments even when the Idol's performance wasn't up to standard. My heart goes out to her for all the recent media attacks on her.

I agreed with you, Singapore Idol is just another programme MediaCorp used to generate income (last year their profit is aorund 300 million!). The most it will create another "7-11 star". All those contestants, from the standard, can never walk out of Singapore.

I agreed wholeheartedly, if it is about finding real talents, then there shouldn't be any voting for your favourite idol to win. It is suppose to based on the judgement of the professionals, not who can afford the most amount of money to vote for another. It's a competition of finding out who can garner the most amount of money from those around you and give it to the organiser of this program.

In this present society, money is louder than action or money talks. E.g ; so many foreigners come to Singapore to make a living, for money sake. Come back to this Singapore idol, if you have a big pool of friends and relatives, who dare to vote for you multiple times, you will definitely the '2006 idol".
