Suppose u apply a force on a slab .
Then u resolve the force in two mutually perpendicular
components. On application of the required force the
slab moves a distance d. then the work done by u is
effective in the horizontal direction only i.e.
along the cosine component of the force .hence
cosine appears in the expression of the work
done. Suppose if the force applied is horizontal,
then cosine of angle zero will be one so the cosine
term would not appear in the work done expression.

theta is the angle between the force and the direction in which the displacement is. suppose a porter lifts a suitcase, theta is 90, therefore work = f X d X costheta = 0(cos 90 =0). even though he does work, scientifically no work is done

Work done in linear motion is F.s., i.e. angle between axis of the body and direction of distance traversed is zero. But what if force is applied on the body at an angle theta to the direction of displacement? So, costheta in such cases gives the max work done in moving a body in any direction .

actually ,the work in physics is defined as vector dot product of force vector and displacement vector.
W=F.D
W=F.D.cos(theta)
where cos theta is the angle between the force vector and displacement vector.you may think as at what direction the force is applied to the body.

In physics workdone by a force is defined as the scalar product of force vector and displacement vector,i.e defined as
F(d)cos(theta).Where theta is the angle between F vector and
displacement vector.

Hmmm...Physics is not for everyone and this kind of doubts will spoil your future.You sound very naive and innocent.Why break your head and spoil your life?.Can Einstein cook paratha and curry?.If everyone becomes a scientist then who will till our lands and feed us?.Join some fashion course or hotel managent couse and enjoy a good life.Cos theta has no use at any time in your life.Good luck.
