Depends on what blog software you are running, what can and cannot be uploaded and a number of other factors as well. personally, I don't recommend using images that are bitmaps for showing off images. .gifs, .jpegs, and .pngs are what I use.
As for flashing images and that stuff, while it may look nice and is great, some people can consider it an eyesore. Though it is your site, so you can use what you want, I just don't recommend lots of flashing banners, images and that sort of thing.

I tend to agree with jaxicle here
It's a matter of preference but I avoid blogs with flashing images
You didn't mention what blog provider you are using but a guide for Blogger.com is generally applicable

you need to host your images -So either your blog provider does it or a (free) image hosting site like imageshack

try a free image hosting site like tinypic.com or photobucket.com - upload the image and there will be a code underneath it in cut and paste it to the place in your blog where you want the image to show up. it will look something like < img src= " http://www. whateverpictureyouhave. com / mypic.gif" > only without the spaces.

This is very simple.. Register yourself with a good photo sharing host (e.g http://www.photobucket.com/).
Upload your pictures with their Upload Tool.
You will get HTML codes to copy and paste the image wherever you want..
Remember to use the while linking to images..It goes like this...

you must first upload your picture at hosting sites such as imageshack.us or photobucket.com. they will provide many links so in your case probably you can choose the link for blogs one. after that just copy the code link and paste it in your blog code.
