Did he learn it at an early age? Did he learn it in school? Did he learn it in Portugal? Or did the portugese teams he played in teach him english or paid for english classes for him?

I would say that he learned English in school. I know that he was a bright student and cared very much about education. And, not only does he speak Portuguese and English fluently, but he also speaks Spanish and some Swedish! He is talented in many areas and is known as "THE PRIDE OF PORTUGAL!"
He will be sadly missed by many of us!

Luis Figo speaks 5 languages and does so eloquently. I'm not sure where heblearnt English, but the man is great at everything he does... He will be missed.
