Its possible, as long as the wisdom among the humans prevail. Technology breakthorugh has been there in terms of environmental revival. But the shock part is the companies who hold them for better selling it for tomorrow.

The biggest threat to our environment is petro products. Before it becomes too late for us to realise, everyone has to understand that eco-friendly products are a contribution to our ailing environment.

If taken for statistics, plastic to the food industry, contributes a lot than any other material. Food industry should consider about using other products, for example plates made of leaf & recycled programs.

Its a small step, but goes in a big way if impletmented by all.

Since you posed this question in the astronomy & space section and not the society & culture, politics & government or biology sections, I have to say that the astronomy & space answer is Earth would be perfectly OK without any people on it. We as a people are not going to destroy or save the planet Earth. We are only going to save or destroy our culture, civilization and species.

We can't save ourselves.

We can't destroy the planet, or even all the life on the planet. So if we snuff ourselves, it really won't be that consequential on the large scale.

It will suck for us, however.
