I am under 5 feet tall and I want a motorcycle. What make and model do you recommend?

Virtually any bike can be modified to fit a shorter rider. The only issue is whether your feet reach the ground at a stoplight. And even then, there are options. I saw this elderly guy and his gf/wife on a Honda Goldwing. The bike was equipped with little wheel; outriggers that dropped down at low speed and kept his bike vertical at stops. Pretty cool arrangement. Also a pretty cool old fellow, still riding at his age.
Basically, if you want to ride, there are ways. Just find a dealer who will work with you.
Oh, and unless you are mechanically inclined, do not buy a used bike. There is usually a good reason it is being sold.

In 2004, Harley Davidson started manufacturing the Softail Deluxe and was built for shorter riders. From feet to seat is only 24.5" The downfall of this bike is the price (very expensive) and that is doesn't come standard with saddlebags and a windshield. But, it is a show stopper. Hope this helps :)

Can't be done this way honey! ... please set some time aside and go shopping I would recommend if your looking for sport bike start with a Honda cbrf4 it looks like a crotch rocket but is made for the new rider who wants to start with a crotch rock style. If that's not your taste try a 2002+ Yamaha R6 or 2002 Suzuki GSXR600 .... go out and sit on them make sure you can reach the ground and that they are not to heavy for you to move around etc ... if they are a little tall and your on your tip toes you can change the dog b one on the bike to lover it 1-3" it's no sweat.

Good luck ... be safe!

You have a lot of company. There's an Internet FAQ for this, the Short Bike List FAQ. It has way more useful information than I could summarize here.

They also have a mailing list. If you sign up for that (instructions are in the FAQ) and ask the question on that mailing list, you'll get a lot of information from people who are just like you, instead of guesses from us tall folks.

being under 5 feet is a problem. Get out to some bike shops and ask for help sitting on a few. You need to be able to touch your feet on the ground at stop lights and in parking lots or you are in for trouble.

Good luck with your search, and please ride careful.

Hi!

I'm an Italian motorcyclist and not that tall (160 cm).
I bought a Honda CBF 500 - naked one - and I find that it's very good to drive everywhere (in traffic jams as well!!!): well balanced, easy to ride and very comfortable sitting.

I DO recommend it as first motorbike!

A Honda Shadow. Easy to ride and low to the ground. The are balanced well, also. Great bike.

How about a Honda Rebel? It's fairly small and easy for a beginner to ride.

An 883 Harley would be good, and you can always have it lowered to fit you.
