Give me an example of an American 'value' that you teach your children to believe in that is uniquely "American". how is the American national identity different from "Australian" cultural values. How is your expression of our shared values different.

Australia and the US share the same values of freedom, democracy, multi-culturalism and capitalism, but you Americans seem so much more conservative than us. Your country produces so many televangelists, religious cults and violent crimes and shootings and serial killers. We are the same, really, but Australia is free of all that weirdness and violence.

We share common culture, language, history and values yet we have become so different. Why?

our willingness to help each other...like after the disasters of Katrina and 9-11 it was hard to find someone that didn't want to help. And even on a daily basis, even though it's often looked over and there's more emphasis placed on the negative, there are so many people out there trying to make a difference in other's lives: United Way, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, etc.

Seeing the Flag flying on so many homes makes me proud.Knowing we all share a day of Thanksgiving makes me proud. Habitat for Humanity makes me proud. My dad taught me how to fish on the little river near our home in the mountains when I was just a little boy. I still fish the same river and have a blast doing it and I taught my boys how. While tourists beat the river dry with fancy lures and don't catch anything we drag stringers full out, right it front of them. That's American and it's passed down and I love it.
