Hi there, if a metal thing (aluminium food container) was accidentally put into a microwave, and there was a spark (and small burn mark on the side), could this do damage to the microwave itself, and could it cause the release of harmful radiation? Thanks

It won't release radiation unless the door is open, but it will burn out the motor if you leave it in long enough.
