Thorough all of recorded history wigs have been made from human hair. So it stands to figure that they were paid for same.
As for the amount or type of payment, that varied, in type of payment and or barter for the service and for the buyer. Of course there is the story of the two lovers.

'It was Xmas (the story goes) and the young wife who had the most beautiful of hair had no way to buy her loving husband a present. The only thing of value she had was her hair. So she decided to sell her hair and buy her husband a present. The husband loved running his hands Thru her hair and she enjoyed this intimacy tremendously. The wife decided to buy him a Comb for his hair, which he was so proud of, and which she loved to run her fingers thru in a very intimate way. Came Xmas morning the wife presented her love with the beautiful Comb she had purchased for him by selling her hair. Her husband was moved, and took of his hat to show a bald head for he too had sold his hair to buy her present, a comb for her beautiful hair. They both cried.'

I read this story when I was about six yrs. old and so it varies some from the original.

Yes - - - but I haven't got any financial stats to give you - - - there is an old Irish Drinking Song about a woman who alternately sold half the hair on her head, one side would be shorn while the other was allowed to grow, etc - - - and at least as late as 1840 at Ludgates Woman prison hair shorn from newly admitted convicts was deducted against their expenses. Peace.

It was always popular among women to sell their hair. If the hair was very pretty, they earned a lot of money.

Yes. The woman would be paid whatever the going rate was at the time and place. Probably not that much.
