One day while i was on my computer, the power knocked out and now once ever so often my computer freezes to a point where it will not read/save anything. For ex: the word Start at the bottom left disappears, Wordpad/Text Documents can't be saved/red, Internet Explorer Icon now shows an unknown file icon when i click on the Desktop Shortcut(at the bottom right of my screen), When i am able to click Start it gives me a drop down window box for me to select Restart or Shutdown, and when it doesn't i have to manually click the Shutdown Button. This happens rather i am using Limewire or Not. I think it might be a bug, i have already used Earthlink Protection Control Center and Norton Spyware Scan with Yahoo Toolbar, and it still occurrs. Can it possibly be something wrong with my DSL Modem that causes the computer glitch. Also i have Yahoo Widgets, and on my Digital Clock Widget, the 10s and 1s place of the DCW will read File Missing, or something like that. Has anyone one experienced this.

Could be a number of things - could be a virus or most likely spyware

Restart your computer and keep on tapping either f5 or f8 and then select safe mode

Once in safemode see if you still have these problems - if not it will be a software problem most likely spyware

Visit download.com and look for spybot search and destroy and lava soft adaware - do a scan on your system whilst in safe mode - what one misses the other will pick up

All do this

Click start > run > type MSCONFIG

click on the startup tab

These are the programs that start when windows start and cause conflicts - disable as many as you want ( this process if reversable)

then restart

also check your device manager for any conflicts

Hope this helps

go to start>run> and type cmd, in the console window, type in

SFC /SCANNOW

keep your XP installation disc handy, if it doesnt help, try restoring yur system to earlier time, before that f**k up happened, if that too doesnt work, re-install the OS. Hoep that helps
