STRICKING ( BURNING ) BACK
Burning back occurs when the rate of burning of the mixture of gas and air is greater than the speed at which the gas is moving up the chimney as a result the flame jump from the top of the chimney down to the gas jet when the air holes are fully opened. The burning back is corrected by turning off the gas, closing the air holes and lighting the Bunsen burner
