Yamaha makes a good accoustic for the price. If you want a nice guitar that's easy to play. Don't buy a cheap guitar. The action is going to be high ( the distance between the string and fret board) and more difficult for a beginner. Take a few lessons to start with, on all the open cords. You can play almost any song. Good luck.

the biggest mistakes are (1) buying a guitar that is not sized right for your body and frame; (2) buying a guitar where the strings are too high from the neck or the neck is warped, and (3) buying a guitar that is cracked. See a guitar store where a pro runs it. Pay at least $250. Good luck.

Do not get a classical acoustic. The fret board is wide, and harder to make those long stretches.
Good luck with guitar!

Fender do some pretty good starter packs. I started that way, and long time guitarist friends of mine were impressed at the quality for such a low price.

Buy a decent brand second hand.
Find one that you like, the way if feels and sounds to you.
If you do not care for that then just get something cheap and start learning.
You can always upgrade later when you get proficient.

Get yourself an electric and a cheap amp...easier to play and you'll be less frustrated, you'll have more fun making cool noise. They'll be time in the future to be a wandering minstral...

Washburn or Yamaha, decent quality & not overly expensive. If you are just beginning don't go for a Fender, even though they are great gutairs they can get quite expensive.
