Emos as a style, or emo as a type of music? I'm sick of people saying one requires the other, like punks or grungers have to dress a certain way. I dont dress anything like I 'should'.
But in terms of the silly clothes/hair styles associated with it, its just a thing of taste really, and PERSONALLY I dont like it. The music can be pretty cool, even if its not something I really relate to anymore.

- dull, samey, whiny bands
- they're generally pretty boring to hang around with - most of them tell me their personalities are 'kooky' or 'random' which doesn't make much sense and usually just means they're boring
- they phucking moan a lot, right?
- dress like freaks (if everyone dresses the same then you get judged on your personality and not your clothes). i think they sometimes forget that they weren't born that way, and therefore, it is not a burden they have to live with
- not very intelligent. know very little about politics other than war is bad and that women, gays, disabled people, whatever, need more rights. all the emos i've met are ultra-liberal and feel they've been victimised (and they haven't)
- following the crowd. it doesn't make you unique when all your friends are doing it and it's plastered all over MTV. you all act the same and all dress the same. hardly nonconformist, is it?

that's the problem with emos.. is that they think every one has a problem with them. to me it is just a choice they have made in dressing and presenting themselves. when people look at them ,they are not necessarily thinking something bad.,
i saw an emo in the shops yesterday and i thought she looked fine ,except she was pale and had these blue veins across her face. she was smiling and communicating quite well with her little sister and mother.so i would say her emo tions are quite normal, and she wants to be part of the look. i am sure she will outgrow it in no time.
but to answer your question, anyone who has a problem with something unknown or which they don't understand, are just scared themselves.

To be honest, I dont even really know what an "emo" is... What do you have to do/say/wear/believe in/listen to to be considered "emo"?

Emo's are really cool people, atleast their individuals, know their own minds and don't follow the norm...It's good NOT to be a sheep, So let you're Emo flag fly....Its all those norms out there who have the problem...........

Probably because it's seen more as a fashion statement & a trend.
edit:
Gotta strongly disagree w/ NoOdle below. They are decidedly Not "individuals" since every other kid & their sister is doing the Exact same thing, & dressing the exact same way. Like thousands of others...
Kinda like all those "goths" as well.

my only problem with that type of youth scene is the tattoos a lot of them have, arms covered in tats and they're only kids. other than that no problems.
