Depending on what time of year you go and your budget and how much comfort you want. We have went the whole gamut of places with the kids and have fun wherever we went.
One fond memory is of tent camping on the Big Sur Coast in California. There are some first come first serve campgrounds that are never full. The one we liked was called Kirk Creek Campground. It is on a gorgeous grassy bluff overlooking the blue Pacific. The sites are grassy with a picnic bench and barbecue. There are trails down to the beach and their are trails across the street (Highway 1) up into the Hills. There is a bathroom with cold water only. You can play ball, hide and seek, go beachcombing, swimming, fly kites, roast marshmallow and your meals over the campfire. You can have a small motorhome or trailer but most people just tent it. The weather is mild year round.
Brian Head Utah is a great ski resort for families. We started our kids skiing right around 3 years old. They have a great ski school for the little ones. The elevation at the top of the mountain is about 13000 feet so there is usually pretty good snow there from November through April. After a good day of skiing, you will want to come back to your condo, have a good meal, watch a movie and sleep well. They have night time skiing or tubing if you have any energy left after the day. They have really good packages and nice condos with cosy fireplaces and well equipped kitchens. Brian Head is not a wild spot, it is just a nice family oriented not overly crowded very beautiful secluded resort.
Disneyland or DisneyWorld are always good choices too. There is a lot to entertain the kids in Orange County, California or Orlando Florida. You can find hotels and motels outside of the theme parks to fit any budget.
Now I am assuming that you are from the U.S. If not, there are lots of cool places to holiday in Canada, Europe, Mexico and New Zealand that I know of too.
I just think camping can be pretty fun when you are young. And it is easiest on your budget.

I would think that you would enjoy a resort that had programs for children so you could have a bit of a break too. A lot of resorts also have babysitters for hire. A cruise would probably also have good programs for children. I think if you look at different resorts you will see that some cater to young families. I guess it depends where you are coming from. If you are in North America then some where in the Caribbean that is fairly established, like Mexico of the Bahamas. From Europe probably Egypt or Tunisia or Dubai. Dubai is really kid friendly.
