Why do many people now a days think that the only way of getting something sorted is by screaming, treatening, abusing verbally & phsically the staff at the jobcentre?

I have a friend that used to work their and she told me it was their policy to get rid of these loud, abusive people by dealing with them quickly. So I believe they built a rod for their own backs there.I was on the sick for a while and I couldn't believe how incompetent they were. If it was a private company they would have gone bust. They would appear on watchdog every week!!Sure I appreciate what a difficult job it can be but they are dealing with very desperate people. One thing that drove me mad about the people who worked their was how they always passed the buck from one department to the other.A lot of the systems didn't used to work. For instance;I was recieving my benefit weekly.I had a social fund loan and when the amount I was repaying changed the social fund would go into my account and adjust the repayments but then switch me onto fortnightly payments, leaving me without any cash. The only way to resolve this problem for me was to go down to the office(with a broken ankle, pelvis and wrist)and sit there for 4-5 hours with a bunch of misfits. And when I finally got to speak to someone they would tell me that I had been paid already! Anyway the police get called if people are too bad but dealing with these type of people who are very desperate for money(albeit sometimes for drink or drugs) is always going to be a stressful job and only people who have the strength of character should do so.The abuse comes with the territory unfortunately. In a perfect world it wouldn't but who lives in one of those? I know I dont

Hey I'm a civil servant not in a jobcentre but in a passport office. We too get our fair share of abuse. But dont feel sorry for us. Like most jobs it has it's interesting points and it's boring points. When some Loony comes in to give us a mouthful it can often provide a great deal of entertainment. Some of the best laughs I've had in the job came because of such people. Many of my colleagues will tell you the same.

Probably because they have to work on the inside of a system, and it is the system that is wrong, and does make sense to either party. Unfortunately, civil servants can't miraculously do things outside the limits of the system they work within. They are just like the rest of us, attempting to keep their jobs, pay their bills, get by. There are a lot of things they are unhappy about too, but their hands are tied (not literally, before you start with your sexual inuendos).

Knowing you are likely to be in the position why take a job at the jobcentre in the first place.
So if you are one of those stop moaning make an appointment with yourself and find yourself another job!!!!!!!

Well from my experience the job centre staff are a load of twats who look down on everyone who walks through their bloody doors, thinking they are better then anyone else
Its their own fault people are rude to them and threaten them in the experience I've had with them they don't half think their better then the people walking in to get help from them
i lost my job through redundancy and I've never been spoken too or treated so harshly or cruelly in my whole life i feel sorry for people who have to go there and look for jobs

That sort of behavior should not be tolerated, anywhere, anytime. If someone does not behave professionally, there should be a policy in effect to have the person escorted from the premises.

It's sad, but it's one of the worst jobs in the civil service and it's not well paid either. The trouble is, quite a few of the 'customers' in said establishment are scum, that's the problem.

Are you kidding, they have signs everywhere warning people against that type of behaviour, besides, if anyone says a bad word to them they will just type a few things into the computer to make sure there are delays on payments.

That is the only way some people can talk, but in there defence they are probably worried where the next £ is coming from to feed themselves and their families. You need to have been on social to understand how bloody hard it is!

I think there should be huge bouncers at those offices & when someone got out of line they could be thrown out.
Behave badly = no money that week.
