That would be weird - - - even with dial up one will get more intelligent answers from a web search than this format. On some weird level a lot of people are bored and posing questions lets them reach out to the rest of humanity. A few have genuine questions but most are searching for entertainment. Peace. Hi.
I believe that people ask on Yahoo simply because it isn't as cold and impersonal as the major search engines. Someone has taken the trouble and time to reply, maybe share a personal experience, or just make you look at things from a different perspective.
It's a live, dynamic environment- a bit like sitting chatting in a bar, but without having to buy 160,000 drinks.
So it's cost effective.
You do however meet the odd loony. Like me. Hello.

I use this service because I genuinely seek out the opinions of others. Sometimes I just want to learn about what ideas are out there. Sometimes I wonder if I'm crazy for thinking or acting the way I do and I want other people to tell me what they think.

I think it's fun to read other peoples answers and get more points. It's a good way to see what people think of things all across the world.

No, I think they (and the rest of us who are using Yahoo Answers)
prefer and enjoy connecting with real people, rather than just surfin' for info all the time.

i think sometimes this is easier and you can alot of times get an answer faster,if you hang on the phone you have to go thur recording after recording and when you finally get to where you need to be ,you then go on hold for a couple of hours.

I shouldn't have thought that's the reason, because with having to wade through so many utterly stupid answers before a decent one shows itself it would surely cost them even more!

No I believe people engage for the sociability, stimulation and the fun.
Maybe I'll ask "Why?" - but I'm trying to accumulate points.
