Ok, think of the most embarrassing situation you have been in or the stupidest thing you have ever done. Now, can you do anything while you are speaking that will remotely come close to either of those two events? Probably not. Convince yourself of that then get up there and knock their socks off.

You did not specify if you are speaking to a group or just an individual (many here are assuming its a group).

If you are just generally an inhibited person, this is something that you have to have patience with yourself about. I also had to overcome this, and it did not happen overnight.

I took a job where I had to conduct training to a bunch of prison inmates. Needless to say I got over myself pretty quick. Now while this is not something I would recommend, my point is that when you are faced with having to confront this problem again and again, it does get better. If you're the type of person who does not get out much, then the problem will take much longer to resolve.

Before you speak, just stop and remember you are going to be fine, it will be over soon enough, and nothing dramatically bad is really going to happen. If you stutter a bit, so what? If you mess up the point of what you're trying to say, so what? It really is no big deal, even though it may feel that way to you.

I hope you get yourself out there and gain the confidence
you need to feel better about yourself....repetition and exposure will probably help.

Using a vibrator may work for the women (hey it can't hurt anything except you will have wet panties). But for the rest of us, try this method: Pick a point on the back wall of the room halfway between the floor and the ceiling. Concentrate on that and you will soon block out the audience who is probably fidgety and/or picking their nose. You will also avoid the trap of looking down at your notes all the time too.

What you need to do is this:

This about that you are telling your self when you are speaking, eg you might be telling you self that people are just going to laught at you. what ever it is that you are telling yourself that is making you nervous, you need to say it in you head 20times faster, so that it makes you laught, this is going to confuse your brain. and will stop your nervousness.

you could also try this.

Sit and think about a time in your life that you were realy happy the happyist you have ever been, rember this time, and play it over in your mind, when you have that happy feeling back, pinch your ear, do this a few time, and when you are speaking, and start to feel nervous, pinch your ear and the happy feeling will come back, and your nervous fly out the window.

a) be prepared
b) do your research and know your subject
c) have your references written down so you can quote them accurately
d) rehearse by reading your entire message aloud as many times as it takes to get it right
e) before speaking remember it is okay to 'fake till you make it' in other words even though you are nervous you are permitted to pretend that you are not.
f) take a deep breath before taking your place in front of your audience
g) glance around at your audience and make eye contact with several people before you begin to talk
h) permit yourself to refer to your notes while speaking and take a small ruler with you to slide down that page as you speak to mark your place.
i) stop for a second at fullstops as you speak and take a breath. and look around the room. This will give you the appearance of being a professional speaker.
j) say only what you need to say and then stop!

Practice what you're going to say. The only real way to get over nervousness it to do it over and over again.

Deep even breathing, a drink of water, and imagine that your audience is naked. Unless of course you're speaking at a funeral.

Always be prepared. Condition your mind that when you are speaking, you are in control. Remember that your listeners does not know what you are going to say. It's your show not theirs.

You are nervous because you are speaking with the expectation that you yourself may or may not achieve something for yourself. WHEN YOUR MOTIVES IS PURE YOU BECOME HUMBLE AND NOT NERVOUS FOR YOU ARE WORKING TO SERVE THE WHOLE. D

Try slipping in a vibrator prior when you deliver the presentation - you will be amazed how radiant you will look throughout the presentation
