I studied French language and culture for four years and it is certainly a lyrical language, especially when reciting poetry. I would wager that it sounds "beautiful" to many American ears because of all the "soft" sounds it uses compared to a more "hard" sounding language like Chinese.
But ultimately I believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and any language can be beautiful to those who speak it.
By the way I recommend learning another language to everyone because seeing the contrasts and comparisons with English will probably help you understand it better and generally improve your mental flexibility and employment and social prospects.
As no nickname said French does not have words for alot of things so they often "borrow" words from other languages, especially English. In one way this can be seen as a by-product of the huge impact English speaking culture has on France and Quebec. But on the other hand the French language hasn't changed much since the 16th century so reading the "classics" in their original form isn't such a jarring experience for French speakers as it is for English speakers.

French, like Spanish and Italian is a romantic language.
I don't know if French is the most beautiful language in the world, but I do know that as a whole the language is very limited. They don't have words for alot of things.

French is the most beautiful language spoken. I work in a office in which I hear about five to six different languages spoken. German just sounds like they're running things over with their tongue and teeth, Japanese and Chinese sound like they're making funny noises. Spanish is spoken too but you hear that all the time. When French is spoken, everyone stops to listen.

To me Arabic is the most rich and beautiful as it is the language of the holy Quran. For example the lion has more than one hundred names in Arabic and each one differ some how in describing different type of lions. Did you know that Osama is one of these lion names?
