My toilet has recently started making a loud "groaning" noise for about 5 seconds after the cistern has finished filling up. Does anyone have any ideas how to stop this?

Stop eating pulses! But seriously the best thing to do is to empty the toilet (turn off the main supply first), then check the pipes. Could be your water supply to the cistern is over powerful, thus creating the wee sound as the ball reaches the switch-off level - could be turning the tap to a lower supply might do it, in order to calm the noise of the pipes. If not - then professional assistance...id est; plumber, is in order!

Change out the water fill valve==if it"s a fluidmaster valve==you might try replacing the "pressure washer" first. You just "twist off" the top half of the valve ==replace the washer==twist it back on together. These washers come as a repair item in a blister package. Of course you know to shut off the water before starting repairs.

you have a leak and consequently the rest room is noisy. replace the stopper interior the backside and see if the noise disappears. to try this turn off the water to the rest room and flush it. as quickly as the tank is empty take the flapper (its crimson or black) out of the two holes on the tall tube and bypass to a ironmongery save and get the right comparable variety. bypass living house and replace it and change the water lower back on. this ought to repair it.

It's most likely the pipes reverberating. Make sure they're all secure and not wobbly. If you can't do it yourself, it's plumber time.
