Israel lost the last battle against Hezbollah. In order for Israel to have won that fight they would have had to clear out southern Lebanon with ground forces. They were unable to do this. They fell into the same trap that the US did in Iraq. A highly mechanized armored force can not win in an urban environment without inflicting and unacceptable amount of civilian casualties. The response of an armored push to receiving fire from a building is to use tank guns or tac air to level the building. This will not work in a gorilla war. The Israelis did not have the type of infantry that would be willing to go in and dig someone out a man at a time. Nor would the Israeli people have accepted the level of casualties that would have been brought about by this approach. By overstating its war goals and not being able to fulfill them Israel lost the fight, How the war turns out we will have to see. It is a long way from being over.

The toll of casualties was more on the side of Lebanese than on Israelites. But in reality the Israelis ended up not achieving their mission in Lebanon. They could not weaken Hezbollah, up to the very last minute there was still intense exchange of fire between the two parties.
Hezbollah has suddenly become an Israeli albatros since the Lebanese and Palestinians are now left with the psychology that the almighty Israel is confrontable with heavy casualties on their own side.
So for me the Israelis lost the war even though they killed more civilians.

Israel wanted to destroy Hezbollah and get back their 2 soldiers(at least so they say)...They achieved none...
On the other side Hezbollah is stronger, now more then ever and they still have the two soldiers...During this conflict Israel lost many soldiers...And it seems that in the end Hezbollah gets what it wants:they said they are going to trade the two soldiers for the Lebanese prisoners from Israel...
So ,yes,I would say that Israel lost the war against Hezbollah...

Israel, the muse reason for all the themes, made an excellent blunder because it continuously does. Its answer is in basic terms to bomb each little thing into airborne dirt and dust continuously and this would not artwork. Israel lost because of the fact it won't be able to manage that kind of conflict. Hezbollah gained because of the fact it probable has extra usual help than ever, and there is fairly lots extra hatred felt in direction of the u . s . a ./Israeli terrorist aggressor.

apparently or why the Israeli are holding demonstrations against the government and objecting the way it handled the war
but it isn't considered a victory to Hezbollah but it has been a long time since Israel was harmed that way
what makes it a loss to Israel is that it couldn't destroy the power of Hezbollah in the south
Israel tended to destroy Lebanon and killing civilians because it couldn't reach Hezbollah's soldiers on land or aerial

Unfortunatey, yes.
The Hezbos wanted a "cease-fire" (as did the rest of the world) because they were getting their clocks cleaned. Just as in sports, you don't call a 'time out' when your team is crushing the other guys, you call one when YOU'RE the ones getting crushed.
btw the Arabic word for 'cease fire' is the same as the word for 'reload'.
The Israeli Prime Minister didn't have the will to clean up the Hezbos... so of course, they'll have to deal with them again, after they've re-armed.
There is no negotiating with people who's starting point in the 'negotiations' is your death. They'll take whatever you have to offer, but will still have as their # 1 goal to kill you.

The answers are not simple:
Lebanon was badly damaged by this war but it looks as if they are going to gain a lot by reducing the influence of Syria in Lebanon and first steps in assertion of their sovereignty, by deploying their army and receiving support from the west to repair the damage and probably to straighten the Lebanese government.
Hezbollah suffered a loss of the total control of parts of Lebanon, hundred of casualties, trouble in it's supply routes from Iran and blame from the Lebanese and most Arabs of being irresponsible, but they succeeded in proving their determination to fight Israel.
Israel could not destroy Hezbollah, but managed to create a change in it's status and international intervention in Lebanon.
Time will tell who benefited and who lost from this conflict.
