Darrell Griffith, aka, "Dr.Dunkenstein" was a small player with crazy "hops" and monster dunks. He had a certain type of flair that made his aerial artistry unbelieveable and rather freakish given his stature. Darrell was about 190 lbs and about 6ft 3(or 4, if you believe that). I once heard Darrell on ESPN Classic tell the story of how his brother and his friends nicknamed him Dr Dunkenstein which was/ is a spinoff from Parliament and the Funkadelics, and, George Clintons' Dr. Funkenstein. Griffith grew up on Clinton's and Parliaments' music. Go to ESPN Classic website, and look in the archives for Darrell Griffith, or, Dr Dunkenstein.

He (Griffith) had 35 dunks in one season for Louisville. For some reason, this impressed a lot of people.

(James Bailey of Rutgers, a contemporary of Griffith, actaully had a lot more dunks in college than Griffith...he had 79 as a sophomore, 116 as a junior and another 88 as a senior) It was no contest as to who was the best 'dunker' in college ball at that time (late 70s, early 80s).

I guess that with 'Dr. J' already well established, that Griffith was a great "monster dunker", especially during his days at Louisville.
