i currently have win xp pro on cd but it does not boot from the cd. to install it i have to have win ME or 98 installed, i then get the option to upgrade or clean istall and convert to ntfs. i want to do a clean install but without having to sit through the win ME/98 just to delete it again while converting. is their anyway i can get a bootable disk so i can boot from my cd. my bios is set to boot from cd but it just bypasses it and then boots up the os. cheers

If you have an original Windows XP CD, it should be bootable, unless there're problems with your CD drive...

IF you get to the Command screen where it says C> or C: type in.

D: (where d is your cd drive with the disk in.
it should now say D> or D:
Now type in Setup.exe
If not go into the Computer Bios setup and look around and make sure that CD Drive is at the top then save and exit and then your WIN XP disk shuld boot!

1 - make sure you have a bootable CD drive
2 - make sure in BIOS CD is chosen as a boot device

it seems bizarre that floppies won't boot either. again, check this out in the BIOS

use your me boot disk to format c:drive
put your xp disc in drive (remove floppy) then reboot ,as you reboot you should be told to boot from cd hit any key (twice)
unless your cd drive /or disc is damaged it should boot from the cd drive
another thing that might help is to copy your xp disc (burn at 24 ) and use that
