Batman, brooding yet tormented.
Superman, strong yet conflicted.
Both so attractive (and why would they fight?? They're in the JL together) but who would win?

Batman beats Superman.

If you actually follow Superman/Batman comics you get the inside scoop. Yep Batman HAS beaten Superman (when he went psycho) in a past comic. I think more than once.
Want to see something really interesting? Check out this Wiki:

At one time (and possibly in the future) a movie was planned for this very event.

I'd see it!

For the answer to this question, run to your local comic-book store and get a copy of Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" graphic novel. It's the story of Batman many years in the future, and culminates with a final battle vs Superman. It's great writing!

When heroes fight each other, it usually because one has been mind-controlled somehow or deceived into believing the other hero is an enemy. In those cases, the mind-controlled hero usually loses, because the hero's mind is trying to break the control, so that person fights with less than 100% determination.

The other reason is over some fundamental moral or ethical dilemma where the heroes are on opposite sides, like in DC's "Identity Crisis" or Marvel's current "Civil War" series. In those cases there's no telling who will win, because they both are fighting for what they believe in most.

If they know in advance they're going to fight and have time to prepare, Batman wins a squeaker. The key to is victory is preparation- getting the gadgets he'll need and developing his strategy. If the fight just broke out unexpectedly, Superman wins easily.

There are only a handful of superheroes/supervillians in the DC universe who can fight Superman toe-to-toe (without kryptonite) and have a decent chance of wining, but Batman isn't one of them. His key to victory is using that brilliant mind to it's fullest.

Superman is much stronger and indestructible than Batman. He can fly and use his heat vision, super speed to maneuver around Batman or use his super breath to freeze Batman. He's got so many natural weapons at his disposal.

On the other hand, Batman is a master detective, is in top physical condition, knows the martial arts and has many weapons and devices in his utility belt. He is very quick and fast and can get out of many dangerous situations. He is a master of disguise and can fool even Superman.

In a physical battle in the ring, then Superman is likely to win but if there is no limitation then it favors Batman. While Batman can be injured, Superman has a weakness to green kryptonite and needs the yellow sun for his super powers. I think Batman will be able to escape Superman and take to the defensive. Superman may be overconfident in his abilities since he is fighting a human. Batman will have to be careful not to get into a physical battle with Superman as he won't be able to hurt him and will be at a disadvantage.

So while Superman has the edge in cornering and capturing Batman, I have to give the battle to Batman as he will be able to figure a way to escape Superman's moves and proceed to lure him into a trap where Superman's weaknesses are exploited with green krytonite or where he doesn't get light from the yellow sun.

I am sure you knew this, but Batman won. Don't you just love how people think this is a crazy question since Batman beat Supes already. I mean you would think Supes would beat him down, but nope, Batman got Superman. In a rematch, I think Superman would win that round, only because DC should not turn Superman into the Superpussy. Come to think about it, if Batman beat Superman a while back (which he did) then that means Superman really isn't a . . . well, a super man. That sucks, there is no super man after all.

DAMN IT.

Its funny you know, you would logically think that Superman would crush Batman, given that Superman is the strongest being alive and Batman is just a rich boy with cool toys, but Batman is the classic example of Brain over Brawn and has actually defeated Superman on more than one occasion and actually keeps kryptonite in the Bat Cave incase superman goes rogue again (he did in a Batman Beyond Episode too) Where the now much older Bruce Wayne taught his apprentice to defeat Superman and half the JL. But I guess in real life lol, Superman would crush them all/ given that Batman does not call on good old Kryptonite.

There is a qualification to your question is it a spontaneous attack or a planned battle (you meet me at such and such location).

Superman has powers Batman does not. So Batman would be out before he knew what hit him if all of a sudden Superman wanted to fight. But then again everyone can fall for a sucker punch.

However in a planned battle Batman would win. Why?

Batman is proactive (plans in advance) Superman is more reactive, (a situation occurs he responds).

Batman would lay traps to depower Superman and/or engage in psychologial warfare against him. Superman does not have the advantage of the physical underdog or a deep understanding of human motiviations, Batman does.

Examples:

Dark Knight (1986) Superman gets a beat-down because Batman depowered him and used an exo-skelleton. Superman could not anticiapte this.

Red Son # 2 Superman gets depowered by Red Sun Lamps (I know it is an Elsewheres Story but the prinicipal holds true).

Man of Steel #3 Batman uses the threat of a bomb to hold Superman at bay (the bomb was on Batman but the threat was a bomb was planted on someone innocent-though in the case of Batman we might be stretching the point).

So in anything termed a battle Batman would probally win if he is not taken out in the first few seconds.

People keep asking this because they can't get over the fact that Batman already defeated Superman on a number of occasions.

People keep saying Superman will win because they think it's brawn that will always matter, and not brains or strategy.

So yeah, just like what the other guy said, Superman's not really super. He's just strong. Give anyone a protein shake and they'll be as strong as him.

Batman. It actually happened in a Batman story called Hush. Superman was under the control of Poison Ivy and he attacked Batman. Batman beat his a**.
How I hear u ask? Well, first, he hid in some lead lined tunnels and then when Superman caught up with him, Batman beat superman with a Kryptonite ring.
Batman won because, in his words, "deep down Superman's a nice guy and deep down, I'm not." Batman, may not have powers, but he is incredibly intelligent and can more than match up to Superman because he uses his wits, not just his muscle (although having a kryptonite ring doesn't hurt).
