It's always hard starting anew. Don't worry though, you will manage, we usually do even when we think we won't. having a 10 year old kinda forces the issue.
Being shy shouldn't be that much of a problem, it is always awkward meeting new people and many of us feel the same way, but pretty soon the new people become good friends and we wonder what all the fuss was about in the first place. Try and feel a little more confident, or act as if you do until you do. It workds for me.
Best wishes

Do it..you only live once, i am a lone parent to a 4 year old boy and I am uprooting and leaving all this behind, i am off to a new life new start new beginning and happier times across the atlantic. You dont want to be an old lady and have regrets in life do you. It doesnt matter where you move to as long as you can call it home. Good luck

My advice would be to draw up a short list of places you fancy then check out what they have to offer regarding the following:

Schools - suitable for your son?
Transport - easy to get around?
Entertainment/culture - are there museums, art galleries, theatres, cinemas etc in the area?
Shopping - what shops in the area? Any farmers markets? Local shops?
Community - what local organisations might there be that could be of interest to you and/or your son? Sea Scouts, for example.
Sporting facilities - are there any skate parks? Football grounds, recreation grounds?
House prices/council tax - some places are of course more expensive to live in than others.

Starting in a new area can be exciting and help you both lead a fuller, richer life. And don't forget - the people in the new area don't know you are shy! You can go to whatever activities you want, join any organisation or association or club you want and I am sure they will make you feel welcome.

are you from the U.K?..Penarth..its a coastal town about ten minutes away from Cardiff the capital city of wales, its mostly a retirement/middle class town but it does have people from all classes, it has schools, shops, areas of interest, and an add bounus its not far away form Cardiff. I would imagine to start a new life very scary thing to do,I am sure you will be able to make it on your own,and over come your shyness, there are people who are there to help, but where ever you deside to live I hope you and your son have a happy life together.

Well my family have all done it including me. If you do decide to move you need to consider who will look after your 10 yr old if you work full time, you need to get a good circle of friends otherwise you will feel alone. Its not easy living away from your family but you can do it when you have support. You need to know if your son will be happy to move away from where he was born. Attending another school might be daunting for him. Its a lot to consider but once you are settled wherever you want to be i think you will be happy. A fresh start will do you both good!

Anywhere on the coast is good to live. And I`m sure you will find plenty of people to get on famously with. Don`t be afraid to dive in and I`m sure your young boy will adjust very quickly. Good luck!

Just do it and worry about the consequences later.
I did it almost 2 years ago, to get away from the murderous ex, and although it has not all been easy, it was the best thing I ever did.
Mail me if you want more.
